Motorcycle owners in college- what do you do with your gear?

By Bike Enthusiast

I am looking to buy a sport motorcycle and all of the appropriate gear. My question is: what do you do with your safety gear (jacket, helmet, gloves, pants) when you get to class? Is it hard to ride with a backpack? Anything a college student should know when deciding to pick a motorcycle?

it all depend on the backpack u get i guess…i go to school and work, and bjj training and have no problem. but i didnt buy a motorcycle backback, i just used the one from schoool because i was on a tight budget lol. but ill prolly get one soon. i take everything with me, at school but i training and work i leave my helmet and jacket and gloves on my bike cuz i can see everything, its literally right infront of me.

    Leather Biker Jackets

Our school is quite safe (Ive never seen a fight in my 5 years of being there) We have a rack which every one leaves everything on so all my stuff goes there. I use my school rucksack and my trainers go in it so I can swap when I get in. Hope that helped.

Good Advice: lock your helmet to your bike, shove your gloves in your pockets or backpack and wear the rest of your gear to class.

Bad Advice: ride to class in street clothes wearing a backpack and you don’t have to worry about it.

(If you follow my Bad Advice, remember that it is practical transportation and not track day, and go easy.)

I ride to school every day with my backpack on; unless you put lead weights in your backpack or you are a complete beginner, you shouldn’t have any issue. In terms of gear, I wear a multipurpose jacket, so I just get off the bike and wear the jacket into class (the only people who really notice it are other motorcycle riders).

Gloves go in your helmet; helmet goes next to your seat. You can try buying a carrying bag for the thing, but in the end, it’s easier and less hassle to just carry it.

In terms of pants, if you are just interested in the looks, I suppose you could wear a pair of jeans inside of the pants and then just switch when you get to class. Personally, I find my riding pants comfortable enough to wear anywhere, so problem solved there.

I ride a ninja 250r (2009). Gets around from class to class without any issue, but some people prefer the larger engines. Your call.

Safety gear is designed to be comfortable to ride around in, which implies most of it is comfortable to walk around in casually. Final note; enjoy the bike, not how people think you look on the bike.

Just another disadvantage of riding a sportbike far as I’m concerned. Call it bad future planning. I see it every day at my school…. guys having to wrestle their gear, books, and supplies. Backpacks are not a total solution. If there’s a stop to be made at the store on the way home,… sorry honey, I can’t carry those groceries. Suddenly that big cruiser with saddlebags everyone thinks is so dumb is looking pretty smart right about now,.. huh? A very comfortable ride, plenty of storage, perhaps even a small luggage rack tops it all off very well. You ATGATT sportbike jockeys think about that while you juggle your gear,..then tie it down on the seat where she used to ride, -and I’ll be taking your girlfriend home….

BTW: keep your pointless sour grapes to yourself…all the thumbs down in the world won’t hurt my feelings.

Full riding leather gear is seldom used for street rides but you can just wear everything and carry the helmet or lock it to your bike.

I wear my jacket, helmet, and gloves to school. You can just throw your jacket over the chair in class and wear it inbetween. put the Gloves in the backpack and my helmet can be straped to the backpack, sometimes I just carry my helmet. I have full gear boots and pants but sitting around all day in leather pants and full boots is not comfortable, just ride safe and be alert. If you really want to use full gear I would look at the heavy duty jeans that are available. They make them almost padded and thick but they are still comfortable enough to wear during the day.
As far as riding with a packpack it is not very hard. I once rode with 4 books and associated notebooks about 15 pounds and had a slight backache when i get to school (20 miles). You might want to look at the bags that attach to the gas tank via magnets, takes the load off your back.
