I need a motorcycle jacket?
Bybut my parents have already offered to get me a leather jacket for christmas. I’ve looked online at mesh styles. Would it be appropriate for me to purchase a 60.00 jacket now and still accept one for Christmas? Parents especially– how would you feel in this position?

It’s not a bad idea to have two jackets, one for colder and one for hotter weather. Get the mesh for summer and let them find you a good leather one for winter. If I were the parent I’d understand that at least.
I have a Coretech full leather jacket with the removeable liner and as many mesh zipper vents as they could fit on it. It’s the one that has a mesh liner and mesh pockets. I think it was $180 and I use it year round.

I feel that one that has plenty of shoulder, elbow and back protection is best. I ride a GSX1300R Hayabusa and am 48 years old. I have come to realize that it is better to have more than you need than not enough. People in automobiles tend to ignore bikes even when they are looking right at you. I ride with a heavy leather conventional leather biker jacket with heavy kevlar inserts along with proper gloves, pants and riding boots. if you can afford it, upper price clothing is better. Never skimp on your riding apparel. One time down and you will see why. happy riding and take care.

depending on where you live a mesh would be good for summer and leather for winter, removable liners make both more versatile

Leather isn’t really that waterproof plus it leaves stains on clothing when it gets wet (i know this because my gloves used to keep dying my hands black, until i changed them)
You could have a winter jacket and a summer jacket.
