Its only a matter of removeing the gear and putting a new one in. It is cuased form starting in first gear

its solid to do u ave 2 completly take the engine apart and exspensive if u have mechanic 2 do it because its takes so long

average shop cost $70/hr US. 10 hours to remove and tear down engine, then you need a complete gasket and o ring kit as well as the part for the tranny, and possibly piston rings-hey if your gonna have it apart, might as well measure and get new ones if needed, then if the bike is ridden typically-figure on replacing the main bearings which will be scorched as the young “rocket scientist” that owned it probably never let the oil warm up and circulate before racing off, then another 8-10 hours to reassemble and reinstall Labor cost $1400 plus parts.

Pricey repair, but you could get away with out it for track use. The gearing is low for that bike so 2nd with feel like 1st gear. You will get use to it. Pay less for the bike because of this issue & get a good track bike.

It’s a big job. A good friend of mine is an MMI grad and a tech at a local HD dealer (funny because he doesn’t really like Harleys) , so things like that are doable, but unless you have that situation, I would still consider the bike if it’s cheap enough, and then look for a salvage engine. Just remember that you can pick up a decent running 99 for $2,500 to $3,000 if you look around, so a messed up GSXR needs to be dirt cheap before I would consider messing with it.

The engine must be completely removed from the frame, engine side covers removed, clutch pulled, and whatever else pieces holding the cases together. Then turn the engine upside down split the cases and you will have access to the ****** shafts. IF, the gear is damaged it is recommended that you also replace whatever gear it meshes with, so, figure up to 250–300 for parts. However, the gear may not be the entire problem as the most common transmission problem is bent/worn shift forks caused by falls on the shift side forcing the shift mechanism to move when the gears are not lined up.

This is an expenisive repair!!!! To fix ANYTHING inside the transmission on that bike will require engine removal from the frame and COMPLETE DISASSEMBLY…the trans is integrated with the engine. As I work on Harley’s, I cann not give you an honest estimate on cost, but it will be at least $1000.

Call your local Suzuki Dealership and ask the Service Dept for a rough estimate…….a DEALERSHIP will be the highest priced…..you can then use that estimate and compare it to an independant repair shop which should be a little cheaper.
